Newcastle University Medicine Malaysia (NUMed)
Newcastle University UK established its international branch campus, NUMed Malaysia, in Johor in 2011. This campus offers undergraduate degrees in medicine (MBBS) and biomedical sciences (BSc), along with opportunities for foundation and postgraduate studies. The courses at NUMed Malaysia mirror those offered in the UK, leading to the same qualifications, ensuring that students receive a UK degree from a globally recognized university. Studying in Malaysia is often more cost-effective than pursuing the same degrees in the UK. Newcastle University has a rich academic tradition dating back to 1834, when it first established a School of Medicine and Surgery in Newcastle upon Tyne. The Newcastle University Medical School is renowned for its collaboration between research scientists, medical doctors, and teaching professionals, recognized for its innovation and excellence in both research and education. The BSc (Honours) in Biomedical Sciences is one of the UK's most esteemed programs, contributing to high student satisfaction ratings in the UK National Student Survey. The connection between Malaysia and the UK campus is strong, with many Malaysians having graduated from Newcastle University. The active Malaysian Society at the UK campus fosters a cultural community, organizing events like the annual Malaysian Night, which celebrates Malaysian culture. The society has been recognized for its contributions, winning the NCL+ award for Best Society of the Year in 2009. Currently, nearly 50 Malaysian nationals are enrolled in the undergraduate medical program at NUMed Malaysia, highlighting Newcastle's continued popularity among Malaysian medical students seeking international education.
